Yes, your passport REALLY has to be valid for 6 months
Every other Friday I tell you one of my ‘Fuck-ups’. Hopefully, this saves you from some super awkward and embarrassing moments.
I was living in Singapore at the time but I already planned moving back to the Netherlands. Before I moved back I would still make the best of it to make some great travels!
My first destination, Perth I would visit an Italian friend who I knew from working in Berlin. It was a great trip and my next destination was Bali to meet up with a Canadian friend.
During my holiday I tried to book a ticket to India because I had to go there for work. It didn’t work on my ‘stupid’ phone (always technologies fault 😉 ). So I decided to do it when I would return to Singapore after Bali.
I arrived at the airport in Perth and the lady of the airline told me that I wasn’t allowed to fly to Bali since my passport wasn’t valid for 6 months! Shoot…. I remember looking at the date and was... Well, by the time it expires I will be back in the Netherlands and it is way easier to get my passport renewed there instead of here at the Embassy!
I wasn’t allowed to fly and they wanted to put me on a flight to the Netherlands! A last-minute flight from Perth to Amsterdam is pretty expensive... Believe me! Luckily, I was allowed to fly to Singapore with my work permit...
I ended up missing a holiday in Bali, missing a work-trip to India (where I really wanted to go, since I had never been there) and paying way more to get an emergency passport.
